Music Biography

Low brass specialist Clarence White was born, and grew up in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada. As a young musician, friendly competition with his peers led to continually greater achievements on his trombone and euphonium. Clarence was a frequent award winner in local music competitions and eventually won top awards at the state and national levels.
Clarence made his first real impression on big stage at the age of fifteen in Toronto’s famed Massey Hall as guest soloist at the annual Festival of Gospel Song, where he was accompanied by the Canadian Staff Band. At the age of seventeen he moved to Toronto and became a member of the band in the euphonium section.
His position as trombonist with the Canadian National Youth Orchestra considerably broadened his horizons as a musician and gave him the opportunity to study under some of the world's finest conductors and teachers. Since then, Clarence has been a featured soloist with many groups throughout North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom.
Clarence played in the Canadian Staff Band for thirteen years (ten of those as the principal trombonist). For over fifteen years he maintained a busy musical schedule as a freelance musician in the Toronto area. During those years he recorded over a dozen solo recordings and developed an international reputation as a fine soloist and clinician.
More recently he has participated in numerous recording sessions and performances in the Los Angeles and Atlanta areas, and plays regularly at his church, the Atlanta Temple. Clarence is comfortable playing tenor trombone, bass trombone, alto trombone, euphonium, baritone, bass trumpet and tuba, in a wide variety of musical styles.
